McDevitt Playhouses was established in 1985 by
Larry McDevitt. McDevitt Playhouses are located in the picturesque Midwestern
town of Maquoketa, Iowa. Larry McDevitt started out by building a swing-set for
his 2-year old daughter. Larry wanted something durable and long lasting, but
could not find what he wanted and decided that he could design and build a
swing-set which his daughter could have many years of enjoyment.
The swing-set evolved into Forts. The Forts evolved into 2-Story Forts and
Playhouses. One of the main Forts that McDevitt Playhouses builds,
is a replication of Fort Armstrong based in Rock Island, Illinois
and still stands to this day. McDevitt Playhouses then began
building schoolhouse sets and custom designed houses and castles.
Larry came up with unique designs to incorporate into his creations.
In the spring of 2007 Larry McDevitt sold McDevitt Playhouses to Greg
and Carolyn Martin of Maquoketa. Greg Martin has worked for
Larry on and off over the last 17 years. Larry McDevitt will
still be involved in the construction during the transitional
period. The business name has been changed from McDevitt Playhouses
to JCT Playhouses
JCT Playhouses pre-assembles the sets in their warehouse and then the sets
are shipped directly to the client. Upon request, someone representing
JCT Playhouses will travel to the locations to assemble the
sets. The company’s work is well known in the Tri-state area
and their advertising has been mostly word-of-mouth. The average
person that sees JCT Playhouse’s work is impressed and in awe
of some of the designs and the ingenuity that are put into them.
JCT Playhouses has come to the point of expanding to the Internet,
hoping to reach cliental, who desire quality work and merchandise.
